Cucumbers

Poolbank Salads is one of the original nurseries developed in the early 1960s for growing cucumbers under glass in Welton, East Yorkshire.
The nursery now grows under thirteen and a half acres of glass. The cropping regime of two and a half times planting is suited to the marketing needs of the organisation and to the production capabilities of the other cucumber nurseries supplying the same product.
Biological control methods play the major role in combating insect pests. The methods used have become much more refined to suit the cropping programmes.
Green waste from the crop is composted, and all growing materials are recycled.
